But the story of Knudsens Gaard goes back to an earlier time. In the year 1100, King Knud VI donated eight farms in the village of Hunderup to Dalum Kloster. During the Reformation in 1536, Hunderup was brought under the crown and Hunderup's farm was assigned to the Ryttergods. They functioned as freemen until 1765, when all the farmers in Hunderup bought their fiefdoms from the king.

FROM MOTEL ODENSE TO HOTEL KNUDSENS GARD In 1954, the main land and buildings were handed over to A/S De Knudsenske Grunde and converted into Motel Odense – Hotel Knudsens Gaard, which was finally inaugurated in November 1955. Since then, the hotel has been regularly renewed and renovated, but has always respected its history and preserved its original appearance.
